Samsung's Budget Galaxy Tab 3 an Entree for the Nexus 11

Samsung is keeping its broad, every-man, appeal going by announcing a new, low-cost, Galaxy Tab device. But back at base, the company is working hard on new 8" and 11" tablets, along with a possible new Nexus 11 for Google. 

Turn To Tab Three 

The Galaxy Tab Three is a new 7-inch-class tablet from Samsung aimed firmly at the iPad mini and other lower-middle class devices. As such, its specifications aren't anything to go wow about, with a sub-HD 1024x600 screen, a dual-core 1.2Ghz processor with 1GB of RAM, plus 8GB or 16GB storage and Wi-Fi or 3G options.

Hitting stores in May for the Wi-Fi version or June for 3G model, there's a microSD slot for up to 64GB extra storage and it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Expect a roll out across most markets, but given its nature, this could be one focusing on emerging markets first and foremost. It will also lack some of the swanky new Samsung-specific features found in the Galaxy S4 and other devices. 

On the camera side, it sports a HD(720p) rear camera for video recording, and a three-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash and a two-megapixel camera on the front with instant social network sharing for the likes of Gmail and Picasa. Pricing is to be announced, but expect it to be competitive with its Nexus and iPad mini rivals.

Going Bigger and Better

If that's not going to get your technological taste-buds slavering, then get prepared for what's coming next out of Samsung's tablet laboratories. Naturally, there's a proper sequel to the massive selling Tab range with the Galaxy Tab 8.0.

This should pack in an eight-inch 1080p Super AMOLED screen, the quad-core version of the Exynos processor, with a step improvement in other areas over the existing 7.7 model. But at the all-out end of Samsung's scale will be the new Galaxy Tab 11 with a monster-resolution screen, new Exynos 5 processor, and other high-performance refinements. 

Finally, doing the rounds is the suggestion that Samsung will make the next Nexus tablet for Google, coming with a full-size 11" screen. Desposing ASUS, which makes the current Nexus 7" model, Samsung could pack in plenty of killer technology into that big tablet case to make the next Nexus model a very interesting prospect indeed.
