Alert: What's Coming Up for Open Source CMS in April 2013

Welcome to this month's wrap up of what's to come in open source CMS projects when we offer some highlights of what to look forward to in the open source world in April.

It's not comprehensive, so please feel free to let us know in the comments  or drop a line to pr@cmswire.com if there's a worthy project we've neglected here. Because everyone loves videos, we'll lead off with an update on Umbraco's relaunch of its Umbraco.tv tutorials site.

Umbraco

.NET stalwart Umbraco has relaunched its tutorials site in beta form with five new episodes of how-tos. Need to know how to make a website backwards compatible or how to publish content right from Microsoft Word? Umbraco.tv is where it's to be found.

The newest content will be centered on the latest Umbraco v6 that came out in January. There are several videos available to watch for free, but monthly subscription is required to watch them all. Subscribers also get regular updates every two weeks for around US$ 25 per month.

Hippo

Hippo meet ups are becoming an annual affair. The 2013 edition will be held in June, but the call for speakers is now officially open. Sign up for the event, send in proposals/ideas or just ask questions at the group's Meetup page. The exact time and location of the event have not yet been decided.

April 11 brings the first Hippo Partner Knowledge Day in Amsterdam. A company road map will be discussed, and partners or potential partners can learn everything they need to know about the company.

Additionally, Hippo has officially accepted Stack Overflow, a Q&A forum, as a place to get expert programming answers. This move comes as a part of a larger shift away from the company's use of Nabble, another programming forum and mailing list tool. The company has moved these functions to Google Groups, so anyone who was subscribed to the old system should have been automatically migrated there.

Liferay

Liferay has already introduced the latest version of AlloyUI, the JavaScript framework behind Liferay Portal.

In March, Liferay’s Ideas Dashboard debuted to its 85,000 member community. Through the dashboard, the Liferay community can develop and promote product and feature ideas. That way, the most popular feature requests can be viewed, and apps ideas pitched for entry into Liferay Marketplace, the company’s public apps repository.

In April, Liferay invites its 85,000 community members to participate in Day of Liferay, a virtual trip around the world to meet a few of the developers and open source enthusiasts who make up the company. The 24-hour tour starts April 9 at 1300 GMT.

mojoPortal

mojoPortal shipped version 2.3.9.5 on February 7, 2013 and followed up with mojoPortal 2.3.9.6 on March 8, 2013. Some updates include inline editing, blog and forum improvements, search index improvements, and a Recent Content feature that shows, appropriately enough, the newest content on a website. A free skin exporter for Artisteer was also issued in a support update for designing with Artisteer 4.1.
